Session Details:

The John Coltrane Reference book provides a lot of specificity that is otherwise missing in Lord. Whereas Lord notes that Coltrane is on both tenor and soprano, and that Dolphy plays on bass clarinet, alto saxophone and flute, the book source specifies which of these instruments is played on each track.

The book source dates this session as February 17, 1962 whereas Lord and other discographies date it to be the day before, February 16th. The book source notes that the performance took place from midnight to 1:30am (that is, midnight, right after the end of February 16), therefore, they are counting it as having taken place on February 17th.

The session is broadcasted by WADO 1280-AM, from midnight to 1:30am. The performance (without the announcements) was later issued on the Gambit label. Symphony Sid Torin was the announcer for the broadcast.

The book source specifies that Birdland is located at 1678 Broadway, at 52nd Street.
