The John Coltrane Reference book notes on which tracks Coltrane plays the tenor and on which he plays the soprano. Lord simply notes that Coltrane played both during this session, but does not provide any specificity.

The John Coltrane Reference book notes that this session was first recorded on December 7, 1963 when Coltrane was in San Francisco, but the show was first broadcast on February 19, 1964 at 4:30pm on KQED, Channel 9 in San Francisco (there was also a repeat broadcast at 7:30pm). It was also broadcast on WNDT, Channel 13 at 8:30pm in New York, and broadcast on National Educational Television (NET) stations in several other cities. The complete broadcast was a little under 30 minutes was was released on videotape in 1999 and on DVD in 2000. The program was entitled "Jazz Casual," which was created, produced, and hosted by Ralph J. Gleason.
