Session Details:

One of the few times we do not put a proper name in the title of a session, this is because a) Norman Granz is surely the 'leader' of this group because he produced and arranged JATP shows, and b) as Peter Losin notes in the comments, this is a concert where three different groups play--first the nonet, then Ella Fitzgerald's trio, then Machito. However, it's safe to call it one session because it's all under the aegis of JATP. -JS

Additionally, because of the multiple personnel variations, it's plausible if a discography called this four different sessions. In fact, Tom Lord's discography attributes Ella Fitzgerald performing more songs than Losin lists here, during this same concert. However, he does not specify the backup rhythm section, and since Losin's entry appears to be a continuous performance with only interruptions by Norman Granz making brief announcements, we are leaving that out. Potentially, they occurred at a different time during this concert and so should be considered a separate session. -JS
