Sutherland makes some key notes that explain some minor differences between his discography and Burton's, in terms of how each explains the discrepancies in the original sources. 

 

- Ian Carr's biography of Miles Davis indicates the existence of a 3rd take of "Dexterity", but it apparently has never been found. We will list it in the tracks, even though Sutherland and Burton do not, because our discography aims to show even unissued tracks if there is evidence of their existence. 

- The Alternate Take of "The Hymn" was originally issued as "Superman" for a Miles Davis issue, but Sutherland implies by listing it as "The Hymn" that the original issue title was incorrect. 

- Sutherland mentions three tracks with regard to which are contrafacts and which original tunes: Bird of Paradise, Bird Feathers (listed as Dewey Square in this discographic entry) and Embraceable You. It's a little confusing the way he talks about it because he says "Embraceable You" is a contrafact. We aren't sure of what it is a contrafact, though, since it has no subtitle or "aka" the way Bird of Paradise, The Hymn or Bongo Bop do. Still, for what it's worth, this is it: Bird of Paradise is said to be a contrafact of All the Things You Are, but (upon listening, presumably) Sutherland has his doubts. Then he says Embraceable You and Bird Feathers are contrafacts, but of what is unclear. 

- Re: Master takes vs Alternates-- Bird of Paradise were initially all considered Master Takes, according to Sutherland, because they were issued together originally. Conversely, both takes of Embraceable You were also issued together originally, but they were separated as "Alternate" and "Master"
