Charlie Parker March 25, 1952 (I)
There are a lot of discrepancies with this session date. Losin, Sutherland and Burton all list there being three different recording sessions that take place on March 25, 1952. The first session, in which "Ornithology" is played, matches up on all of the discographies - it took place at Loew's Valencia Theater in Jamaica, NY. The second session, in which "Cool Blues" is played has a few differences between sources. Sutherland says that this "Cool Blues" session took place in Loew's King Theater in Brooklyn, NY and lists the pianist as "Teddy Wilson." Losin instead says that this session took place at Loew's Valencia Theater in Jamaica, NY (same location as the other "Ornithology" session). Losin also says that the pianist is "Dick Cary," and explains that many have incorrectly noted it to be Teddy Wilson. For the "Ornithology" recording, Sutherland lists some additional personnel: Buddy DeFranco on clarinet and Bill Harris on trombone, in addition to the personnel listed in this session. For the "Ornithology" recording, both sources agree that Dick Cary is the pianist. For our purposes, we have combined the recordings of the two songs, "Ornithology" and "Cool Blues," into one session ("March 25, 1952 (I)), and clarified discrepancies between the two in this note. The third March 25, 1952 session was distinguished from the other two; it is listed as "March 25. 1952 (II)," is a recording for Mercury and even has different personnel.
