Session Details:

Normally we have used Sutherland or Burton as the definitive source for Charlie Parker. Both of their discographies list one long "session" occurring sometime in February 1943 but they write that they are not certain of personnel or in some cases, of whether Parker plays on certain tracks. Jazzdisco lists separate sessions, including this one--which they give the specific date for. With regard to the tracks where Parker may not be present: if it's possible that the whole 11 songs that Sutherland lists did not occur in the same session (as Jazzdisco's variance implies) then they should be split up, and those songs should not be listed as parker tunes since--in the absence of certainty of personnel--it's entirely possible that those tunes were recorded with a different band on a different date. We would, of course, welcome any clarification here. Also, it should be said that it appears jazzdiscog still has some typos, most notably "Shoe Woogie" is most likely "Shoe Shine Swing" (aka "Yardin' with Yard"?); similarly, the song "Three Guesses" we assume is "I'll Give You Three Guesses" by Mancini/Mercer. -JS
