Playback Channels

The number of channels the recorded object representing the Issue contains. A channel is a complete, independent audio playback signal representing the original performance. In monophonic recordings, there is one single channel; stereo, two; quadraphonic, four; etc. Where there is more than one channel, distinct signals are of course related to the same performance, but may represent microphones in different spatial locations, or simply staggered versions of identical signals, or an artificial post hoc split of the monaural track into different frequency ranges, which are intended to simulate stereo.
